'BradCast' 4/14/2021 (Guest: David Roberts on Biden's infrastructure plan and ending socialism for the fossil fuel industry)

On today's 'BradCast':\xa0 President Joe Biden announced a firm date to remove all US troops from Afghanistan (other than those providing diplomatic security) no later than September 11, 2021, the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, declaring 'It's time to end the forever war.' Biden's massive infrastructure jobs bill, the $2.24 trillion American Jobs Plan, will be paid for largely by increasing the corporate tax rate, but also by ending permanent, longtime direct subsidies and tax breaks \u2013 government socialism for the fossil fuel industry. Energy and climate journalist DAVID ROBERTS of Volts characterizes Biden's plan as a remarkably progressive infrastructure, jobs and climate proposal. Roberts explains why focusing just on ending direct fossil fuel subsidies is 'a drop in the bucket' compared to the 'indirect subsidies' the fossil fuel industry receives from not paying the true cost of their products, which produce a massive amount of 'social harm' \u2013 external costs and damages to society in the form of pollution, public health, abandoned facilities and climate change that are instead paid by the public.
