On today's 'BradCast':\xa0 In the nine months since Merrick Garland was confirmed as U.S. Attorney General, there is little sign of any effort at accountability for the long laundry list of federal criminal transgressions committed by Donald Trump and his accomplices. That failure has pushed several legal and constitutional experts to call for Garland to resign. A new statement from the nonpartisan legal advocacy nonprofit Free Speech for People (FSFP) notes Garland's distinguished career as a federal prosecutor and appellate judge, but finds that the Garland Justice Department's failure to 'take any meaningful action to hold accountable former president Donald Trump and his co-conspirators for attempting to overthrow the government on January 6,' and the department's decision to adopt 'indefensible positions of the Trump Department of Justice to protect Trump from accountability,' require Garland to step down. They warn, 'as long as Trump and his co-conspirators walk free, American democracy is in danger.'\xa0 FSFP Co-Founder and President, JOHN BONIFAZ, an expert in constitutional law, explains the group's legal reasoning, based on a documented panoply of apparent, if uncharged, Trump-era crimes. He also discusses the Justice Department's failure to act on the US House Select Committee's criminal contempt referral for Trump crony Steve Bannon for defying a lawful congressional subpoena, what may be behind the DOJ's inaction, what can and should be done to restore the department's independence, and much more. FSFP is collecting signatures on a petition at GarlandMustResign.org. Also today:\xa0 Republican-controlled states' new, extremely partisan gerrymandered maps are poised to deprive non-GOP voters of representation, underscoring the need for Congressional Democrats to pass federal voting rights and election reform legislation.
