'BradCast' 11/3/2021 (Guest: John Nichols on mixed results for Democrats in the 2021 Election)

On today's 'BradCast': The results of Tuesday's off-year elections were not nearly as bad for Democrats as the national media seems compelled to insist, but there were both red flag warnings and lessons that Democrats and progressives should note and learn. Virginia hewed to its history of electing a new governor from the party opposing the White House, with Trump-endorsed GOP businessman Glenn Youngkin, posing as a moderate, riding on a Fox 'News'-fueled wave of manufactured outrage over Critical Race Theory (which is not actually taught in VA schools). New Jersey's Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy won a rare second term, but his GOP opponent may challenge the election results after widespread malfunctions of electronic voting equipment across the state. The corporate media and many Democrats have been focused on the single high-profile defeat in Virginia, but progressives won many norm-shattering victories in down-ballot local races and initiatives. Author, journalist, and progressive champion JOHN NICHOLS of The Nation discusses the 2021 election results, making sense of where both Democrats and the national media went right and wrong during the election and its aftermath, and lessons that can be learned. Should Dems start acting more like Republicans if they hope to have any chance of victory during the 2022 mid-terms? Plus we cover a host of progressive wins that have fallen beneath the national media's radar, including historic mayoral victories from Massachusetts to New Mexico, Ohio, North Carolina and beyond.
