It's a grim day in the U.S.A.: Donald Trump, the President of the United States, re-tweeted three anti-Muslim propaganda videos posted by a member of the UK's far-right extremist nationalist party, drawing worldwide condemnation from U.S. allies but praise from white supremacists. Then environment reporter EMILY ATKIN of The New Republic joins us from West Virginia, where Trump's Environmental Protection Agency held its one and only hearing on its proposal to kill Obama's Clean Power Plan, intended to cut the carbon emissions from power plants that cause dangerous global warming. Atkin describes the hearing as a "farce" that featured testimony from coal barons, and discusses what the hearing suggests for the future of the EPA and Obama's climate policies, as well as how industry leaders and Republican officials acknowledge the decline of the coal industry (thanks to cleaner, cheaper natural gas and renewable energy) even as they lie about its future to the folks directly suffering in Coal Country, like miners and their families.
