Kirsty shares with Clarrie the discovery that Sabrina knows about the Mystery Plays. She mentioned it to Lynda in the shop. As Clarrie blusters Kirsty has to break the news to her that Lynda’s decreed that having broken the secrecy rule, Clarrie can’t keep the role of King. Clarrie’s mortified; can’t she have another chance? She only made the one slip. Kirsty almost weakens before Clarrie admits she may have told a few other people as well. Kirsty’s resolve strengthens, and Clarrie is fired. Neil and Susan are at The Nest, supporting Chris. They think he’s looking tired as he scurries about collecting items to take back for Alice. He should be looking after himself. Susan suggests she and Neil take the next visiting shift so he can rest. They sit outside the hospital with Alice, admiring pictures of Martha. Kind Susan sends Neil off for tea while she lends support to Alice. She discloses her worries about Emma and Christopher when they were born. It’s natural and the sign of a good mum. Alice remains unconvinced, but says no more. Alan visits Chris, and sees he’s overwhelmed. He empathises but Chris laments it’s not as simple as the usual pressures of being a new dad. He discloses Alice’s drinking to Alan. He confesses what’s really scaring him isn’t that he’ll feel unable to deal with any difficulties Martha might develop, but that he’ll blame Alice for them, and end up hating her.
