EXTRA **** Hope is a 2001 Suburban

Published: April 25, 2020, 1 a.m.

On today’s Apple Seed Extra, we want to share a letter from a listener. This comes from Sheldon Pickering, a small business owner in Farmington, New Mexico, and, we gotta say, a heckuva piano player and composer as well. He’s good to his employees – when the pandemic hit and everyone found themselves in isolation, Sheldon started a Facebook group called A Matter of Faith, where the families of his employees, and other friends and family and neighbors, could keep connected. Sheldon sent us this piece, along with a photograph of a little model car that sits on his desk, a constant reminder of the trips he’d love to be taking in the real car that sits in his driveway. With Sheldon’s permission, we’ll bring you the whole letter here on the Apple Seed. In it, you’ll hear some of the frustration shared by many, and a certain perplexity at the things that perplex many, and, certainly, the hope that so many share. We’re calling this piece “Hope is a 2001 Suburban.” We hope you enjoy it.
