There are many great reasons for entrepreneurs like you to belong to the Small Business Association of Michigan. John Kolbasa is the founder of Value Engineering with locations in Lansing and Detroit. He’s a member of SBAM’s Leadership Council. “I think the Leadership Council has been very helpful for me, because I'm surrounded with other business leaders that are in the trenches of operating their businesses and doing a lot of the same things I'm doing.” John says he values the collaboration opportunities he gets from his involvement. “I found that the people on the Leadership Council are very generous with their time. I've always been able to sit down with folks that I felt would be a good fit, would be able to give input on what I'm doing and help me. They've always been willing to sit down and meet one on one. There's lots of opportunities in the different events that the Leadership Council plans, to get around and talk to other business leaders.” SBAM’s political muscle also means a lot to John. “I feel like SBAM is very influential and has an opportunity to give input in the political realm there, well respected by a lot of politicians. And their input matters because they represent a lot of small businesses. And so that gives the opportunity to get around and hear from different political leaders, whether it's presentations or speeches or lunch, you know, just informal gatherings, to understand where they're at, what their position is and understand who the candidates are that are running for different positions. I've also found that SBAM has a good opportunity to give input on legislation and on changes that are coming down, that are happening. Their input is highly regarded. And so the different subcommittees that are part of SBAM and the opportunities to get involved in those and give input and kind of shape that direction that is passed on to the political leaders is a great opportunity to have a voice in what the business climate is and what it's going to be in the future.” Leverage the value of your involvement with the Small Business Association of Michigan.
