Bio
Influenced by the freedom of jazz and harmony, Stahl describes her music as melancholy pop. "it makes you feel happy and sad at the same time" A native of Cleveland, Renee Stahl began her music career at the age of 10 belting show tunes and writing songs in her bedroom. At 18, an acting career called her to New York City. Once there, she flirted with musical aspirations by joining several singing groups and performing jazz on occasion. In 1992 she moved to los angeles to star in an independent film. As it turned out Los Angeles also provided her with musical opportunities. After a short time, stemming from a private joke she became known as "renee from paris"- the name she chose to call her first band. Renee has sung with Josh Clayton-Felt, Alexi Murdoch, Lili Haydn, Ann Magnuson, Abby Travis, Lizzie West, Jeremy Toback and East Mountain South, among others. The co-producers on melancholy pop include: Andrew Williams (Old 97\'s, Peter Stuart, Victoria Williams, Scott Thomas Band), Chad Fischer (Alexi Murdoch, Colin Hay, Lazlo Bane) and Dave Dale (Audiomatic). Most of the songs on this CD were co-written with Kevin Hunter (Wire Train, Tuesday Night Music Club). Apart from her love of performing- she finds joy in organizing benefits and events which enable musicians to come together and share their art. Some of these include a season for nonviolence, descendants of the earth (Josh Clayton Felt memorial concert) One look at Renee and you aren\'t sure if you are looking at an old 40\'s movie or if she\'s your best friend from next door. Renee has been seen singing at venues such as......the mint, hotel caf, knitting factory, genghis cohen, the derby, and still sings in her bedroom.
