Bio

Eithne N\\xed Chath\\xe1in is a performing artist whose singing, playing and song-writing comes from the heart and speaks to the heart. A native of Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Eithne is currently living in Dublin. Music has always been a natural part of life for Eithne and for her four talented siblings. Her Grandad taught her how to hold a 1/4 sized fiddle at the age of four. Her gift for singing became apparent from an early age and Eithne began singing sean-n\\xf3s at the age of ten, learning from her own mother and from recordings lying around at home. North Kildare is not known for its sean-n\\xf3s singing and Eithne was lucky to receive sound guidance in this art from M\\xe1ire U\\xed Raghallaigh, mother of The \\xd3 Raghallaigh family from Co. Meath, a well known family of musicians who taught and greatly influenced Eithne. Much time and effort was spent by Eithne\'s parents bringing the family all over the country to lessons, festivals, competitions and house parties. In this way, Eithne\'s talent for performing publicly and communicating through her music developed quite naturally and organically.

Eithne is blessed with a pure and true voice, haunting and very beautiful. She has a gift of interpreting a song and offering it in a beautifully honest way. In the past four years, Eithne has taken to performing a wide range of material as a solo performer and has been exploring and developing her song-writing talent both in English and in Irish. She began singing with fellow Kildare singer/songwriter and friend Luka Bloom in various venues around the country and for a while formed a band together with Luka and two other friends, Bernie Ph\\xe1id and Claudia Chambers. This experience helped Eithne realise that music was something she especially wanted to focus on. Her vocals and fiddle playing are to be heard on Luka Bloom\'s recent album \'Innocence\'.

Eithne\'s deep love and connection to the music and language of her country inspires her singing and playing as does her desire to give expression to her own unique voice. Eithne\'s gig is a wonderfully intimate, fresh and varied experience. Her repetoire includes her own songs accompanied with piano and guitar, beautiful sean-n\\xf3s songs, fiddle playing, contemporary folk and other music that inspires her. Two years in the making, Eithne\'s debut album, entitled simply \'Eithne\' is a reflection of her varied musical journey to date. It was recorded in Dublin and Lahinch, Co. Clare and produced by Eithne independently. This gem of an album is now available to buy at Eithne\'s gigs and through this website.
