If there is some parallel universe in which bands get into the charts because of great tunes and intelligent lyrics, and not just because they are hyped by marketing bozos in suits, Gum would be prime candidates for super-stardom and Leigh Myles would have her face on a million bedroom walls. The band released their debut album \'Low-flying Kites\' to very favourable reviews in 2003. Featuring a clutch of great tunes and some spooky instrumental touches, it brought Leighs mellifluous vocals to a wider audience. One reviewer described them as sounding like Hope Sandoval fronting OK Computer-era Radiohead. Now signed to Serali Records, their current mini-album \'Seven Feeble Alibis\' sees them move into slightly more muscular territory. Gum songs are usually deep and often brooding, but this album sees beefier epics like \'Beyond the Horizon\' and the future James Bond theme \'Cross your heart, hope to die\' take them to another level altogether. And through it all, Leigh\'s multi-layered backing vocals lift the killer choruses to truly dizzying heights. Both \'Seven Feeble Alibis\' and \'Low-flying Kites\' are available to buy from Serali Records, CD Baby and iTunes.
