Thank you very much to Jacqui for commissioning this episode!
Whew, it's been a long journey to get here but damn has the ride been wild! This finale episode is really really satisfying in a lot of ways, but there are some things that really didn't rub me the right way. I'm struggling to sort through the things I thought were great and the things I find kind of ugly.
First of all, there's the reveal that Beaver is actually the murderer. This is the kind of reveal that I think I would have found really gripping five or so years ago, but after seeing how many storylines turn the victims of abuse into villains, it's pretty hard for me to stomach. Not only is Beaver a murderer but also a rapist, and there's a disgusting insinuation that he raped Veronica because he was incapable of having "normal" sex and needed an incapacitated partner, due to the abuse he'd suffered. I am really not a fan of any of these assertions and the way that Veronica leaps to these conclusions...and I guess we viewers are just supposed to accept them all.
But then there are things that I really loved, and I'm sure that you all can guess that the death of Aaron Echolls was one of them. I'm totally here for this cold-bloodedness.
Thanks so much for listening, and I will be seeing you all again soon with a new episode!
