We're really cooking with gas in these chapters, which focus on Christopher finally getting to the root of his issue with magic not working and managing to pull off some serious spellwork on his first try. He's so unprepared for how strongly his magic will respond that when he's asked to levitate a book, he manages to levitate the roof right off the fucking building.
This means, however, that his plans to be a world-class cricket player are dashed. As much as I don't give a fuck about cricket, I got weirdly invested in this dream of his and also took it quite personally when nobody seemed to care what he wanted in the slightest.
