Okay folks, we're getting down to the action of this book, and it's time to bid farewell to the cushy, lovely palace and the gorgeous clothes and the intoxicating sense of power that comes with being the Darkling's favorite.
Because as it turns out, the Darkling is a bad guy. Well, according to his mom at least.
Turns out that it wasn't some ancient ancestor who created the Fold that the Darkling is trying to make amends for...turns out that the Darkling is himself ancient, and he's not only the one who created the Fold, but he wants to expand it. The one thing in the way of that is the Volcra, which it turns out used to be PEOPLE which is SO FUCKED UP.
So Alina runs, and Mal helps. But right now, I'm still not ready to forgive him.
