We are starting on the next Leigh Bardugo series, and if I'm not mistaken it's a prequel to the previous books. It's a whole different world, even though it's the same world, because we're seeing how differently the Grisha are treated when they're not being persecuted or sold as slaves. It's really wild how totally different it all feels on this side of things.
In these opening chapters we meet Alina, who is a Grisha and yet has no idea well into her adult life, far beyond the time that most Grisha are able to tap into their powers. As it turns out, she's able to do something that is very very rare, and as of right now it seems as if she's not able to call up this ability at will...but I suspect that's going to be changing soon.
