I've said it once and I will say it again; the creatures in this book are some of the most creative and horrifying I've ever come across. Every time I think we've encountered what's bound to be the worst one of the lot, we wind up stumbling upon another one that's absolutely disgusting and makes me want to sit down and give this author some counseling.
These chapters, Sabriel finally discovers her father's body, and it's bittersweet as she realizes that he's going to have just enough strength in him to come back and fight Kerrigor, but no more. Also, there's a child slavery ring on the outskirts of the city that's going to need to be dealt with. I'm frankly somehow less worried about Kerrigor than I am about that.
