Poisk loshadey is a second level divination with a casting time of ten minutes, a range of three miles, and a material requirement of a horse hair and some standing water.

This spell can locate the nearest horse, within range, matching the type of hair used.  The hair must be atuned for ten minutes, then cast onto the surface of water where it will act as a compass with the root end as the pointer.  The hair will retain its pointing ability indefinetly and can be used repeatedly.

Poisk loshadey was discovered in Russia in the late eighteenth century but has had little recorded use in the twenty-first.  Modern identification devices are much more precise and efficient for finding a desired steed or mare.

During the expansion of the American west, lawmen would covertly remove a hair from the horse of an unknown traveler, just in case they needed to be tracked after the commission of a crime.
