b'The legendary songwriting team of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart found early success with songs such as \\u201cLazy Elsie Molly,\\u201d which was a Top 10 R&B hit for Chubby Checker, \\u201cCome a Little Bit Closer,\\u201d which was a Top 5 pop hit for Jay & The Americans, and the instrumental theme song for the long-running soap opera, Days of Our Lives. The pair are best known, however, for writing and producing more than 20 songs for The Monkees, including \\u201cLast Train to Clarksville,\\u201d \\u201c(Theme From) The Monkees,\\u201d \\u201cI Wanna Be Free,\\u201d \\u201c(I\\u2019m Not Your) Steppin\\u2019 Stone,\\u201d \\u201cShe,\\u201d \\u201cWords,\\u201d and \\u201cValleri.\\u201d As artists, the Grammy nominated duo found success in the late 1960s with the self-penned Top 40 hits \\u201cOut & About,\\u201d \\u201cI Wonder What She\\u2019s Doing Tonight,\\u201d and \\u201cAlice Long (You\\u2019re Still My Favorite Girlfriend).\\u201d Bobby Hart wrote a number of hit singles apart from Tommy Boyce, including \\u201cHurt So Bad,\\u201d which was a hit for Little Anthony & The Imperials in 1965 before finding subsequent chart success with the Letterman, Jackie DeShannon, and Linda Ronstadt, who made it a Top 10 pop hit in 1980. He also wrote Helen Reddy\\u2019s #1 single \\u201cKeep on Singing,\\u201d as well as Lane Brody\\u2019s #15 country hit \\u201cOver You,\\u201d which was included in the film Tender Mercies and earned Bobby Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations in 1983. He continued to score on the R&B and pop charts into the 1980s with New Edition\\u2019s \\u201cMy Secret\\u201d and Robbie Nevil\\u2019s \\u201cDominoes.\\u201d Most recently, the Monkees recorded Boyce & Hart\\u2019s \\u201cWhatever\\u2019s Right\\u201d on their critically acclaimed 2016 comeback album, Good Times. In 2015 Bobby published his autobiography, Psychedelic Bubble Gum: Boyce & Hart, The Monkees, and Turning Mayhem into Miracles.'
