Anna MacDonald: Bringing music alive for child refugees

Published: Sept. 23, 2019, 8:51 p.m.

The career of Anna MacDonald, a London-based musician and doctor, changed when she visited an orphanage in Iraq in 2014. The experience compelled her and colleague Alyson Frazier to establish a charity called Play for Progress, which helps children and young people who have made it to the UK as a single refugees, without family or support. Play for Progress gives them the opportunity to immerse themselves in music, play instruments and learn to compose. It’s a wonderful outlet for children who, in many cases, have been through highly traumatic experiences and can sometimes struggle to express themselves. Anna tells the story behind Play for Progress as well as her other organisation, the Association for Exiled Scots. Interviewed by Fraser Allen of White Light Media in the Caledonian Club, London.
