#56: How to design your business model for the work and lifestyle you love with Molly Mahar

Published: Jan. 28, 2020, 1 a.m.

Today we’re wrapping up a month full of amazing conversations about business models. Although it takes a while to find sometimes, we all have a unique business model that suits our work and our life perfectly. Our guest today has gone through several different business models with her company, and is one of the most talented people I’ve met when it comes to aligning the way she runs her business with her lifestyle.

Molly Mahar is a coach, teacher, and soon-to-be author. She founded her community Stratejoy in 2009 to create a safe space to talk about life’s big stuff. Stratejoy has evolved over the years from one-on-one and small group coaching into a community with masterminds and group programs that Molly helms each year.

I originally came across Molly’s work when she appeared on another podcast talking about her business model. I was so intrigued by her journey that I had to have her on Scaling Deep so we could dig below the surface of how and why her business has worked so well.

Molly and I talk about the growth of her business over the past decade and some of the business models she’s implemented over the years. She has a great sense of humor about the quirks of her business and why she’s so dedicated to shaping her work around her life rather than the other way around. We also talk about what spurred her growth at each stage, how and why she let go of the program that brought her business to a financially secure level and why she doesn’t believe in growth for growth’s sake.
