13 Things I've Learned From 13 Years of Selling Real Estate. 1. Have patience. Buy and Hold. Long term appreciation is key. 2. Real Estate gets in the way of Life. 3. Work efficiently. It's possible to make a lot of money and not work very many hours. 9-5 No Way. 4. I've never wanted to be known as a Real Estate Agent. As athletes say, I'm more than a "basketball player". 5. Treat people as human beings first rather than their profession "doctor", "lawyer", "teacher".  6. Spamming people is annoying. For everyone. 7. Respect people's boundaries. Never be a salesman. 8. My jobs as a teen and in my early 20's taught me how to greet and communicate with people. I actually greet everyone at an open house! 9. People want to be heard. Ask questions and listen more than you speak, in real estate and in your personal life. It's amazing what people will tell you. 10. Work only with people you like and respect, and that they like and respect you in return. 11. Buy property and investment property for yourself as you can find and get the best deals. 12. Find a core group of "friends", that you speak with a few times a week. 13. You are worth the value of your commission. Never let anyone tell you you are worth less.
