If you’re tuning in as an Australian, you’re likely to recall the horrific April 2020 Eastern Freeway tragedy that killed four of our Victorian police officers. Constable Josh Prestney, Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Constable Glen Humphris and Senior Constable Kevin King were preparing to impound a black Porsche 911 that was being driven at 149kph whilst under the influence of substances, when a truck recklessly slammed into them, killing them all.

I don’t know about you, but I feel the impact when I see news like this and can hardly imagine what this means for colleagues, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and friends. Today I’m sitting with fellow police officer and brother of Josh, Alex Prestney, who was one year younger than his then 28-year-old sibling who had only just graduated into the police force a handful of months prior.

We talk about both trauma and grief. About managing life in the middle of the messy, unfair, heartbreaking reality, that in a heartbeat became Alex’s (along with many others) reality. Alex expresses himself and his connection with his brother through music, a love and talent Josh was known for and we riff on the healing that comes from the expression of and connection we all experience through music.
