Derrick was a Sniper, Special Ops Diver and Counter-Terrorist Operative with the elite Special Tasks And Rescue (STAR) Group of the South Australian Police. Performing at peak in a demanding role. During a high-risk arrest in 1994, Derrick was shot 14 times in less than 5 seconds with a high-powered rifle and left lying on the ground, bleeding to death, for 3 hours before being rescued.

The first doctor to get to Derrick later stated to media, “He’d almost lost all his blood, I still don’t know how he actually survived." Apparently Derrick (fortunately) didn't read the text book on mortality... it's a miracle he survived.

There's nothing like bantering with the closest thing to immortal that you can get, hey! I love burrowing into the psyche of someone like Derrick as we explore how these elite humans process life as they step into dangerous and life threatening situations all in a days work.

Listen up in this ep to get a little insight on 'human durability' and perhaps how we can develop a bit of this stuff ourselves for our everyday lives.

Enjoy!
