Today I bantered with Paul Rankin. He thinks he's nothing special. I think he's quite the opposite.
\nBorn with Cerebral Palsy, Paul is an engineer, a pilot, a lifesaver, a musician and as of this year qualified at national level for diving... Not national level for parasport, but for fully able bodied athletes.
\nWhat. A. #^$%ing. Legend.
\nNo 'poor me'
\nNo 'life's hard'
\nNo excuses.
\nPaul just gets on with life and lives a damn good one at that!
\nCerebral Palsy is the most common form of childhood physical disability, affecting about 34,000 Australians.
\nBet you didn't know that... Well, I didn't.
\nIn fact, there is a lot I didn't know about it. It's a condition that ranges from purely physical disabilities right through to intellectual.
\nIt is not degenerative, yet it is permanent.
\nPaul has a type called Hemiplegia, where one side of his body is affected. As you will learn throughout our chat Paul is extremely intelligent and just gets on with life. I bloody love his attitude and found so many gold nuggets that people can take out of listening to him share his story.
\nMost of us can't even (and don't) imagine what it is like to live life with disabilities. To realise how many things we take for granted that aren't available to or are made so much more challenging for people with physical or intellectual limitations.
\nI loved this chat. You will too.
\nEnjoy!
