EDINBURG, Texas - Dr. Linda Villarreal, president elect of the Texas Medical Association, says she supports Medicaid Expansion.
Villarreal, a practicing physician based in Edinburg, Texas, recently spoke on a webinar hosted by the Mexican American Legislative Caucus.\xa0
On the subject of access to healthcare, Villarreal said: \u201cWe have a problem and it has been a problem for over a decade or more. I would say two decades. Access to healthcare has never been good. Medicaid expansion has always been one of our most important messages to our state legislators.\u201d
Another prominent leader in the Rio Grande Valley is businessman Alonzo Cantu. The co-founder of Doctors Hospital at Renaissance also o supports Medicaid Expansion.
\u201cA word people don\u2019t like to hear, Medicaid Expansion. Get it into Texas. We have not gotten it since Obamacare. Instead of sending it to California and Florida. Bring it down here, spend it on healthcare,\u201d Cantu said.
Cantu made his remarks at a media appreciation luncheon hosted by DHR Health and held at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance.\xa0
