We begin our series on 1 Thessalonians by seeking to understand the nature and purpose of the church. Chapter 1 provides us with a definition: the church is a redemptive community of Gospel-centered people. In verses 1-3, we learn that the church is a redemptive community: 1) which lives together in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 2) is established by God, 3) is characterized by faith, love, and hope, and 4) gives evidence to these through prayer.
