LL Cool J - Radio Thoughts

Published: May 6, 2020, 2 p.m.

Welcome to episode 14!  Hiphop's first superstar, LL Cool J, came into the game guns blazing with his debut album, Radio (1985).  This was Def Jam's first full length album to come out and it set them on a path of rap domination for decades to come.  Even though this album came out in 1985, there's still songs on here that resonate and sound great with today's soundscape lens.  And the fact that LL Cool J was only 16 when he made this album is remarkable and shows how naturally gifted he was.  LL Cool J would go on to become one of the most prominent figures in not only hiphop, but pop culture.  It all started with this album which was produced by Rick Rubin with his signature rap/rock hybrid sound.  Even if a few of the song on here are a bit outdated and out of touch with today's societal standards, its a fun album that is a pleasure to revisit.  Both Matt and Brandon hadn't listened to this album in full before this episode and it was easy for both of them to see why so many rappers look up to LL Cool J.
