For more than 20 years, Dr. Naomi Rose has been a leader of domestic and international efforts to publicize and address the many problems associated with the capture and captivity of marine mammals for public display.

In this episode we discuss the current status of marine mammals in captivity in the U.S. She shares how she worked with industry and government to create laws that ended the entertainment and breeding of orcas that are already living in captivity.

We also discuss the Russian Whale Jail - where orca and beluga were illegally taken to be sold to the Chinese entertainment market. She is leads an international effort to stop captivity in China, Russian, and other countries around the world as the marine mammal scientists for the Animal Welfare Institute.
