For this episode, Alaina spoke to four other democrats who ran for Statehouse seats this year from all over the state. Zach Stepp (OH-55) and Nancy Larson (OH-47) ran in districts the Democratic Party deemed Red-to-Blue, Kim McCarthy's district (OH-73) was listed as "emerging," and Morgan Showen (OH-54), like Alaina, ran in a district that basically got them pats on the backs for trying. Even though all of these candidates came from districts varying in "flippability," none of them saw significant shifts in margins from 2018 to 2020.
Alaina talked to these former candidates about why they ran, where they think the party should go from here, how to form a winning message moving forward, and what it means to run in a district that isn't likely to flip. Hint: It's still worth running!
