Planned Solutions Third Quarter Economic Growth

Published: Nov. 14, 2019, 2:15 a.m.

On this episode of the Planned Solutions Financial Review Podcast we discuss how The US economy is estimated to have increased by 1.9% in the third quarter. This is lower than the previous two quarters but still in-line with the longer-term trend established since the end of the previous recession. Consumer spending continued to be an important source of growth while trade and business investment weighed on growth. Government spending, fueled largely by federal deficit spending, also helped to buoy economic growth. And, The Federal Reserve Senior Loan Officer Survey reports that banks are largely tightening loan standards for commercial and consumer loans. This may be a sign that banks are becoming less willing to extend credit to support business investment and consumer spending. Yet, demand for consumer and mortgage loans continues to be strong as interest rates have declined. Also,The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued an alert to investors related to online offers for Certificates of Deposit (CDs). The SEC has seen a large number of websites making fraudulent offers designed to steal people’s savings or their personal information. These sites often come up when individuals search the web for high CDs rates but are not actually affiliated with a bank or financial firm. Plus a look at the Planned Solutions Incorporated Office Bulletin Board- Many people are aware of tax season which runs from early-February to mid-April during which tax returns are typically prepared and filed. At Planned Solutions we also have tax planning season which runs from mid-October through the end of the year. The processing of Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) is in full swing. Every year our objective is to have all RMDs processed by the end of November to avoid scrambling at the last minute to get the paperwork processed and the distribution done before year-end.
