In this episode of the Planned Solutions Incorporated Podcast, The US stock market has defied its historical patterns in 2020. Whereas the Summer months are typically characterized by low price volatility and relatively flat returns this year the market posted strong returns from June to August. Then, the market sold off in September and October which historically sets the tone for the remainder of the year. However, this year the market rallied in November, bucking the historical pattern, and taking the US stock market indexes to a new high. Also,The annual event that is Black Friday has lost a large part of its significance in 2020. Shoppers largely avoided stores and instead opted to shop online with total sales down for the year. This has left economists wondering if the data has any predictive power in 2020 as the pattern of holiday shopping may be shifting with spending occurring over several weeks given reduced promotions and an emphasis on online sales. And, The IRS issues IRS Notice 1444 to all taxpayers who received an Economic Impact Payment under the CARES Act. Taxpayers will need this notice to file their income tax returns in order to avoid accidentally claiming multiple tax credits. If IRS Notice 1444 cannot be located it will be important to find bank records that confirm the exact amount received.
