On this episode of the Planned Solutions Financial Review Podcast we discuss, Lower interest rates have sparked a sharp increase in housing prices in recent months. This is likely linked to the corresponding increase in new home permits as home builders respond to an increase in demand for housing. The new supply will be slow to make its way to the market creating a seller’s market for an affordably priced home. However, low interest rates have also led to a sharp increase in the number of cash-out refinances as homeowners are once again using low interest rates to access their home equity. And, Medicare open enrollment is in full swing making this the time for Medicare beneficiaries to review their current coverage and decide if they want to make changes. This is also a time when the risk of Medicare fraud is an increased risk as many scammers will used open enrollment to fraudulently access the Medicare number or personal information of Medicare beneficiaries. Also, The retirement plan contribution limits will increase in 2020 due to the automatic inflation adjustments that are included in the law. The amount that can be saved in 401k type accounts, which includes 401(k)s, 403(b)s, and 457 plans, will increase by $500 from $19,000 in 2019 to $19,500 in 2020. The catch-up provision available for workers over age 50 will also increase $500 from $6,000 to $6,500. So the maximum contribution for those under age 50 will increase $500 and will increase $1,000 for those age 50 and over.
