Planned Solutions Inc Quarterly Rebalancing May Be Causing Increased Market Volatility

On this episode of the Planned Solutions Incorporated Podcast, After briefly making a full recovery for the year in early June the stock market declined later in the month as volatility once again increased. This may be a sign that investors are reassessing the strength of the recovery or it may simply be a function of investors using a calendar-based rebalancing strategy. The rebalancing that likely supported the stock market in March may now be causing an increase in selling activity as investment managers seek to bring allocation back in-line with the target risk/return profile. Also,The US housing sector is the latest industry to report a strong rebound in activity as many states loosen economic restrictions. Pending home sales increased a record 44.3% in May which followed a 16.6% increase in new home sales. While the housing sector is still down from May 2019 the sharp bounce-back is a positive sign that certain areas of the economy may recovery fairly quickly. And, Many people are holding on to gift cards from before the pandemic or purchased gift cards recently to support their favorite businesses. However, the value of gift cards are often ignored should a business declare bankruptcy. Given the risk of a wave of bankruptcies in the coming months, it may be advisable to use those gift cards now just in case the business closes its doors or reorganizes in bankruptcy.
