On this episode of the Planned Solutions Financial Review Podcast we discuss The estate administration process can feel like a daunting task. However, it can become more manageable if it is approached in an organized way and help is enlisted to handle some of the tasks so that too much work does not fall on one person. This article lays out a process that executors and trustees can use to determine their next steps and take action to finalize a decedent’s estate. And, Identity thieves have begun using obituaries to find their victims as they believe their illegal activities may not be caught as quickly if the victim is deceased. Therefore, it is important to notify the credit agencies of an individual’s death as soon as possible in order to avoid the time and cost associated with clearing up fraudulent credit claims on a decedent’s credit report. Also, After a family member dies there is often a long list of things that need to be done to settle their estate. Often one of the first challenges is dealing with Social Security. Generally, the funeral home will notify Social Security of an individual’s death. The Social Security Administration may then cancel checks or deduct direct deposits if paid after death. However, there may be Social Security benefits that survivors may be able to claim by contacting Social Security directly.
