PLANNED SOLUTIONS Coronavirus Pandemic

Published: Aug. 20, 2020, 11 a.m.

In this episode of the Planned Solutions Incorporated Podcast, The national data appears to show two peaks in Coronavirus cases which differs from the pattern that scientist would expect during a pandemic. However, a closer look shows that the experiences of most states and localities are following the expected pattern as the virus appears to be migrating from location to location. This may mean that the typical economic and financial patterns observed during past event-driven recessions may still be the most likely scenario. Also, The President recently signed an executive order extending the CARES Act student loan relief provisions until the end of 2020. This will allow student loan borrowers to defer payments without interest accruing on federal student loans. However, there is some question as to whether the President has the authority to extend provisions of the CARES Act through an executive order which could lead to judicial review of the order. And, For many taxpayers. Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) have become the cornerstone of their charitable giving strategy. However, since Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) are suspended for 2020 some taxpayers may want to avoid taking distributions from their retirement accounts in an effort to allow the account values to recover from losses earlier in the year. In this case, it may be prudent to rethink the charitable giving strategy and possibly use other giving options. Plus a look at the Planned Solutions Incorporated Office Bulletin Board- We are all adapting to this “new normal” as best we can.
