P.I.D. Radio 8/5/13: Spies of Life
SPIES HAVE dominated the news of late \u2014 the NSA spying scandal has revealed that the US government is basically tracking all our electronic communications. Today we discuss a couple of new revelations. First, CNN reports that the CIA had about three dozen operatives on the ground in Benghazi when the U.S. consulate was attacked last September. Why? They were apparently running guns, shipping missiles from Libya to the rebels in Syria.
What could possibly go wrong?
Second, a secretive joint venture of the NSA, CIA, IRS, FBI, and DEA called the SOD \u2014 Special Operations Division \u2014 is sending intercepted data to local law enforcement so police can arrest American citizens \u2014 who aren't supposed to be targets of the NSA or CIA ever \u2014 for mundane crimes like selling drugs.
