Margo is an Art Director, Graphic Designer, and entrepreneur. She’s THE graphic design consultant who created what I needed for my business, starting with a logo. I love her work! She’s a very passionate designer who loves anything creative. Her experience, love for design, and solid foundation in minimalist design allows her to provide her clients (like me!) with simple, consistent, compelling, and engaging designs. She has been easy to work with from the start, and I feel lucky to have found her. Her process is easy to follow; her artwork fits my needs; and, I would recommend Margo Puffenberger to anyone looking for artwork for their company logo, podcast, social media banners, online course, book cover, audiobook cover, or other projects.

During our conversation, you’ll hear how Margo uses her voice to help others with their graphic design needs. For more information about Margo and examples of her work, please visit her website: https://www.designbymep.com.

Highlights from the Interview

Margo and I met in-person at a business expo in Northwest Ohio, which is where we both live. Thank you Linda Fayerweather from the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library for sending me Margo’s way!

Margo and I have been working well together for about 4 years, and our first project was the logo for The Pharmacist’s Voice \\xae. She also created my business cards, stationery, envelopes, podcast artwork, social media banners, and the artwork for my online course.

Examples of Margo’s work include print designs, logos, signage, and more. Visit https://www.designbymep.com to learn more.

At my request, Margo to included a copyright release in the contract for the artwork she created for me. That way, the designs belong to The Pharmacist’s Voice \\xae. However, she has permission to use my designs as examples in her portfolio.

What are some tips for finding the right graphic designer?

 1. Do a Google search for graphic designers in your area. Get a feel for them. Does their portfolio have artwork you like the look of? Are you drawn to their artwork and style?
 2. When styles between client and graphic designer are very different, it can take longer to get to the final goal due to frustration, miscommunications, omitted follow-up questions, and assumptions about the process. Choose the right designer for you.
 3. Go with someone who meets your budget needs.
 4. A clear process is important. Example: initial conversation, first concepts, rounds of revisions, final files, billing, etc.
 5. Research helps. A good graphic designer will research who the client is without their logo. Note: Creating a logo is different from creating a brand.

There are advantages to going with an individual designer like Margo vs. online companies. For example, Margo is available for personal and thoughtful conversations about what will work and what will not work. Personal relationships are important!

Margo likes functional design: artwork that says more and there’s a story behind it. Margo likes doing research for her designs. She also likes doing illustrations, which she considers REAL art.

Some of the things Margo likes best about her job is being available for her family, doing work she loves, and having some location independence. Having a flexible schedule has allowed her to do more activism. She likes having a flexible schedule. In July, when everyone is on vacation, and business is slow, she has the opportunity to fill the time with learning.

Even though Margo is busy, she is an excellent communicator and meets my deadlines. I have had great experiences with her and would recommend her. Margo likes to keep in touch with clients. She feels like she’s part of their story. I know she’s part of MY story!
