How Purpose & Prosperity Can Revitalize Broken Communities with Shadeed Eleazer

“Building a good partnership takes time.” -Shadeed Eleazer (06:10-06:12)

We all have our internal GPS system that guides our steps in life, whether we are working at a job, self-employed or full-time entrepreneurs. In this week\'s episode, Lia Dunlap talks about how purpose and prosperity can revitalize broken communities with Shadeed Eleazer.

Part One of ‘How Purpose & Prosperity Can Revitalize Broken Communities with Shadeed Eleazer’

Shadeed Eleazer is a US Navy veteran and Baltimore\'s top small business advisor. He helped six and seven-figure entrepreneurs, influencers, and public figures convert their authority and influence into a steady stream of leads and sales online. He is the leader of the most prominent black business partnership network. As a philanthropist on the east coast of the USA, he has organized communities and developed campaigns that have raised millions of dollars to empower lower-income communities. As a venture capitalist, he has invested in the growth of over two hundred startup businesses through a community fund.

“When you teach others how to fish for themselves, you give someone the ability to manifest their own destiny.” - Shadeed Eleazer (07:32-07:41)

Shadeed has always followed that internal navigation to say what feels right to him. He discovered that in doing business, it makes sense to make a difference along the way. It\'s not always about going in a direction that makes the most money. His biggest mistake in business was allowing his lack of understanding about the client that he was working with and the revenue that was going to be associated with to take him down a path where the money was more important than the purpose. Since he learned about this particular client, he realized that certain values were not in alignment. So, he made a promise to himself that he would work and empower projects that his unique guest and his unique talents would elevate versus allowing himself to be loaned out to the highest bidder.

He was raised in a family with an entrepreneurial mindset, so he earned his first paycheck at the age of sixteen. And when it comes to business, his unique belief regarding partnerships is that you don\'t meet someone on the first day and consider that person as your best friend. You don\'t go on a first date and ask someone for marriage. The partnership is about creating smaller wins and building rapport as the relationship grows.

Part Two of ‘How Purpose & Prosperity Can Revitalize Broken Communities with Shadeed Eleazer’

Shadeed says it\'s one thing to be able to give somebody the tools. It\'s another thing to teach somebody how to build the tools themselves. And so, when you teach others how to fish for themselves, you give someone the ability to write their destiny and to rewrite generational curses that may have existed before this present day. Entrepreneurship is about making a positive impact and connecting with others. But it\'s not necessarily giving away funds to every person who is down or struggling with something.

Entrepreneurship is about creating solutions to entrepreneurs that allow us to solve more significant problems for our communities. So, the first step to planting a seed of what\'s possible for you is to realize that you can\'t be everyone\'s hero or role model. You should empower your local heroes like moms, dads, aunts, uncles, and many more, giving them the tools to the ownership mindset so that they can be the role models that plant the seeds within their household.

“When you\'re able to give the opportunity, VS wait for the opportunity given to you, it changes the whole dynamic.” - Shadeed Eleazer (14:27-14:36)

Do we have a proper seat at the table as business owners vs. being dictated what the solution should be? First, if you have to voice your opinion on a specific topic, you\'re not, let\'s say, worried about losing your sponsors or losing your job, you should be able to speak out about what impacts you. Second, issues or horrific things begin to happen. The people you need to discuss the solution with will have greater respect for what you bring to the table. So, ownership in the form of a community of households is the way forward.

In every Facebook private group, every group chat or every email thread, some successful people are fed up with the same news cycle, playing the same over and over injustices. Ownership is a state of mind. It\'s not something that you turn on or off. And when you\'re able to give the opportunity versus wait for the opportunity given to you, it changes the whole dynamic. We all have gifts and talents as resources that we can combine to change things that are impacting the world. When you set forth your best intention, what you don\'t realize some time is the lamps will be lit along the way based on the electricity that your ideas and momentum provide.
