Schools across Oregon are gearing up to welcome kids BACK to in-person learning,leaving many parents and teachers worried about COVID-19 risks. But one Portland area school is dealing with an entirely different health concern: tear gas. Cottonwood School of Civics and Science, a public charter school, has been subjected to clouds of tear gas since May of last year, as a result of law enforcement response to regular protests at a nearby U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement facility. Amanda McAdoo, director of the Cottonwood school, spoke to OPB about concerns the school has to bringing kids back into the classroom.
