b'The music world went a little weird on February 13, 2011\\u2026and I remember it very, very well because I was in a hotel room in Vancouver with nothing to do but watch TV\\u2026I think I was coming back from a speaking thing in Victoria and my flight home had been cancelled\\u2026\\n\\nI ordered up a club sandwich from room service and lay on the bed watching the 53rd Grammy awards\\u2026all the usual suspects were there\\u2026lady gaga, whose album \\u201cthe fame monster\\u201d had been, well, a monster\\u2026six nominations, including best album\\u2026\\n\\nKaty Perry\\u2026seven nominations for her \\u201cTeenage Dream\\u201d album\\u2026Eminem was back\\u2026Rihanna had a bunch of nominations\\u2026there was buzz about Justin Bieber, Jay Z, Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars, Lady Antebellum\\u2026.\\n\\nFinally, after more than three hours of awards and speeches and performances, it was time to present album of the year\\u2026the presenter was Barbra Streisand, who, earlier in the evening, was feted with the \\u201cmusicares person of the year\\u201d honour\\u2014a big deal\\u2026\\n\\nShe stepped onstage with the envelope\\u2026.the crowd buzzed\\u2026 \\u201cit\\u2019s gonna be Katy Perry\\u201d \\u2026.\\u201dNo way! They\\u2019re gonna give it to Eminem!...\\u201dAre you crazy? Lady Gaga has this sewn up\\u201d\\u2026\\n\\nBabs opened the envelope and\\u2014well, just listen\\u2026\\n\\nDidn\\u2019t she sound so confused?...let\\u2019s listen again\\u2026and note the long pause as she stares at the printing on the card as if she doesn\\u2019t know what to do\\u2026\\n\\nTwitter exploded\\u2026I mean, it just melted down with indignation, outrage and hate\\u2026\\u201cThe Suburbs?\\u201d\\u2026by who?...what\\u2019s an \\u201cArcade Fire?\\u2026.never heard of them\\u2026you people are Grammy\\u2026how come I don\\u2019t know who they are?....no one knows who they are\\u2026who the hell is Arcade Fire!\\u201d\\n\\nIt was epic....and for those who still don\\u2019t get it, hang on\\u2026we can fix things for you\\u2026or at least try to\\u2026\\nLearn more about your ad choices.
