b'If you came of age musically in Canada in the 1990s, you\\u2019ll remember that it was an extraordinary time\\u2026there was this mass embracing of homegrown music\\u2026it was part nationalism and part patriotism, but it was also something else\\u2026\\n\\nA vast generation of young people simultaneously said, \\u201cCanadian music is as good as anything the rest of the world has to offer and we want more of it\\u201d\\u2026and we got it\\u2026\\n\\nMore acts were signed to the big labels and made records\\u2026radio played those records\\u2026MuchMusic ran the videos\\u2026there were tours and festivals\\u2026record stores stacked this new stuff up front\\u2026and over a few short years, a brand new star system emerged\\u2026\\n\\nSome of those stars are still with us\\u2026Our Lady Peace, Matthew Good, The Barenaked Ladies, Sloan \\u2026they\\u2019ve all had fruitful mult-decade careers that began in either the very late 80s or early 90s\\u2026\\n\\nThe Tragically Hip became a juggernaut\\u2026Alanis Morissette had the biggest-selling album from female artist of all time\\u2026and let\\u2019s not forget that a couple of the \\u201cBig Shiny Tunes\\u201d compilations from MuchMusic\\u2014which were heavy on the Can-Con\\u2014sold more than a million units just in this country\\u2026\\n\\nLike all eras of music, there was attrition as bands came and went, passing into the realm of memories\\u2026that\\u2019s the music business\\u2026there are some long-term survivors, but most of it is evanescent\\u2026\\n\\nSo what happen to the rest of acts?...did they really break up?...are they still doing stuff?...where are the members of these bands today?...\\n\\nLet\\u2019s try to track down some of the CanRock groups of the 90s, part 1\\u2026\\nLearn more about your ad choices.
