Three Resources You're Managing Badly

One Sharp Sword - Cutting Through To What Matters Most with Dr Wayne Pernell is meant to be thought-provoking and inspiring.

This show offers no advice or counsel related to law, finance, or health (either physical or mental).  You are listening at your own discretion and interpreting what you hear in your own way.  This show is meant for entertainment purposes and no claims of enhancement or enrichment of any sort are indicated or implied.  Nope, this show doesn’t promise to make you better looking.  But hey… look at you now!  Listen in!  Enjoy!

Most leaders like to think they have everything under control and when they don’t, they pull in the reins, tightening the control, which often leads to more out-of-control-ness.

The three resources you’re managing badly are these:

  1. Your time!
    1. You’re treating the calendar page like it’s a bad thing and you look at the clock like it’s a threat.
    2. We all have 24-hours in a day
    3. Manage your projects, not your time.  Treat everything from emails to meetings like projects.  Give them time slots.  Give your projects time slots for you to hunker down and focus exclusively on them.
  2. Your money!
    1. You may or may not be tracking cash flow.  You might be misestimating what you need.
      1. Look at your projects
      2. Look at what each might require
      3. Look at your past production
      4. And again it’s back to project management with timelines and expectations for results
    2. You haven’t invested in yourself.  I spend tens of thousands (over the years, it’s been hundreds of thousands) of dollars on my own personal development to be at my best for my clients.  How much are you spending on you to sharpen who you are personally and professionally?
      1. Set dedicated funds aside to work with a solid coach!
  3. Your people!
    1. You haven't really acknowledged that the work they’re doing is meaningful and matters to you and the company.
      1. The same holds true for your family.  Focus, engage and let them know that they matter to you.

It’s really simple but funny enough, it’s not easy!
