One Sharp Sword - Cutting Through To What Matters Most with Dr Wayne Pernell is meant to be thought-provoking and inspiring.

This show offers no advice or counsel related to law, finance, or health (either physical or mental).  You are listening at your own discretion and interpreting what you hear in your own way.  This show is meant for entertainment purposes and no claims of enhancement or enrichment of any sort are indicated or implied.  Nope, this show doesn’t promise to make you better looking.  But hey… look at you now!  Listen in!  Enjoy!

Two of the most UN-SEXY words you’ll ever hear: Tax Reform

Am I right? Yes, and yet this expert gives us insights in the taxes work AND in leadership. Personally, I learned A LOT in this interview and I’m happy to share Julio Gonzalez with you.

His top points relate to ALL OF US, and that makes this topic just A LITTLE MORE SEXY.

  • He got into this niche because he thought he could Do Better: better for himself and better for his clients.
  • He noted that it’s not just the Fortune companies that deserve a break, but the smaller businesses, the ones that make up the U.S., that need the breaks. (He used the word, “Deserve.” Small businesses deserve a break!)
  • Tax Reform Laws don’t happen that often, probably only twice before in our lifetime. Now that we’re in a pandemic, there’s urgency to get help to businesses. If we’re $2 Trillion in debt with the CARES Act and going $3 trillion in debt with the Heroes Act, the question is, can we manage that?
    • By the way, $2 trillion is $2,000,000,000
  • Julio advises the entire senate base (that’s 100 people)
    • There are 400 in the House, 100 in the Senate, and then there’s the President all of whom need to align to get Tax Reform done.  Emergencies cause urgency and this pandemic has swung people to talking in ways they hadn’t in decades.
  • Julio has several hundred employees and says that as the CEO he likes to hire great people and then get out of their way.
  • And he encourages people to own their own business, “It’s great to be an entrepreneur!”
