This broadcast happened during the worlds unrest as they heard; and didn't want to believe what was happening in Europe by the mad man that we know of as Adolf Hitler. This is the radio broadcast that helped change how radio stations (and later TV stations) aired warnings that programs are just that programs, and that it's not really going on in real life.
