Michael Phillips, the creator of Phillips Farms Of Cary in Cary, North Carolina joins us to talk about his farm and "agri-entertainment". One of the main parts of springtime business for Michael is a "you-pick" strawberry patch.  However, with coronavirus restrictions he could not allow large groups to congregate on his farm to pick strawberries.  But, the strawberries were not going to wait on the virus.  They were going to rot in the field if they were not picked. Michael realized that there were people out of work because they had been laid off or furloughed due to the virus.  He put out the call for folks to come pick the strawberries as his employees if they had lost their job due to the virus.  The call was answered, and Michael was able to get his strawberries picked at the same time that he was able to provide employment for people who had been furloughed.  It is a great story of making a negative into a positive. Phillips Farms Of Cary sits in the metro area of Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.  Over the years the cities have sprawled around the farm.  This has changed the business model from strictly crop farming to one of agritourism, or as Michael refers to it, "agri-entertainment".  He has seen great success and growth with this model, and we will answer your questions about this type of business in the interview.
