In this episode I am featuring an interview with Dr. Ashley Marshall of the State University Of New York (SUNY), Morrisville.  Dr. Marshall is an assistant professor of dairy science.  She and several of her friends came up with an idea to give food to those in need while supporting the dairy industry during the social distancing time of the coronavirus crisis. They created a "dairy drive thru".  First they solicited donations from their community to go out and purchase dairy products that would otherwise be dumped or thrown away because of lack of demand. Then, they notified people in need of a place and time that they could pick up free dairy products to help feed them during this crisis. This project grew dramatically and rapidly, with the help of companies like Chobani donating products, and they began serving thousands of people with free dairy products.  This is still evolving as they have conducted just four dairy drive thru's so far.  It is estimated in their last event that they served over 2,000 community members and turned away over 6,000 when they ran out of product. This model can be replicated all throughout the United States, and it is a great way to do something good for the community while supporting dairy farmers.
