Folks across the nation have their eyes on the upcoming Presidential election as well as a number of House and Senate seats that are up for grabs. Here in North Dakota, individuals are hoping that candidates will remember rural America and not just focus on the east and west coast elites. Yesterday at the National Press Club in DC, a number of leaders with NETWORK, Advocates for Justice, Inspired by Catholic Sisters, released the findings of their new report. The report, titled 'Raising Rural Voices; Listening to the Hopes and Hardships of Rural Communities,' was discussed during a round table discussion on rural life in America and what politicians and leaders in Washington can do to help rural communities, like the ones here in North Dakota. In this podcast episode, host Joel Heitkamp visits with Sister Simone Campbell about the rural findings report and how the gathering went yesterday, including what was focused on and how leaders will go forward after reading the findings of the report. Sister Simone is the Executive Director of NETWORK and a member of Nuns on the Bus. She mentions that politicians can't forget about rural America and lays out how they can focus on rural America legislation that will help communities across the nation. Part of this discussion goes hand-in-hand with the One Country Project, which was started last Spring by former Senators Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Donnelly.
