Baghdad, Iraq (CNN) - Dozens of supporters of the Iraqi cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr, gathered outside the parliament building in Baghdad, on Saturday, to protest against the nomination of Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani for the position of prime minister.

Al-Sudani was officially nominated to lead the country on Monday, by the Coordinating Framework, which is the largest Shiite alliance in the Iraqi parliament.

\n

His nomination followed the resignation of Sadr's bloc in the Iraqi parliament, a group of 70 lawmakers who withdrew from the ruling legislature last month in a show of strength after months of political deadlock.

\n

Saturday's protests come after a meeting chaired by the current Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, and attended by leaders of security services to discuss security plans in light of possible protests, the state-run Iraqi News Agency announced.
