Mary's Boy Child is a Christmas song composed by Jester Joseph Hairston in 1956, often covered and the only one of its kind in two versions to become a million hit. The first successful version was written by Harry Belafonte (1956) and the second by Boney M. (1978). Boney M. had just delivered the hit Rasputin on August 28, 1978, when their version of Mary's Boy Child / Oh My Lord was released on November 27, 1978. It was recorded at Union-Studios in Munich and Liz Mitchell was the only group member singing. With over 3 million copies worldwide, Mary's Boy Child was the second largest success of the group. This made 1978 the most successful year in the history of Boney M. In England, the single reached number one on December 9,1978 and remained in the top position there as a Christmas number one hit for four weeks, in Germany it reached top postionen on January 8, 1979 for one week.
Verena Böhm sings the main voice and all female choir parts. I took over the male choir parts and the two solo parts, which were originally sung by producer Frank Farian.

Die erste erfolgreiche Fassung stammt von Harry Belafonte (1956), die zweite von Boney M. (1978). Boney M. hatten gerade am 28. August 1978 den Hit Rasputin abgeliefert, als ihre Version von Mary’s Boy Child / Oh My Lord am 27. November 1978 auf den Markt kam. Verena Böhm singt die Hauptstimme und alle weiblichen Chorstimmen. Ich habe die männlichen Chorstimmen und die zwei Solo-Parts übernommen, die im Original vom Produzenten Frank Farian eingesungen wurden.
