Cinema Rio is one of the oldest cinemas in Port Said. This episode of Mudawanat covers the history of Cinema Rio, its relationship with the Port Said community and the existence of cinemas and other cultural centers in the peripheries, outside of Cairo. It also sheds light on a group of young people determined to overcome a variety challenges in order to revive the Rio.

Mudawanat is a living archive of contributions that document the contemporary culture scene in the Arab region. It consists of two series, “Myths” and “Alternatives”, and it is the pilot product resulting from the work of participants in the first round of the Mudawanat program. Brought together in Tunisia in January 2020, they are a group of researchers, writers, journalists and artists involved in arts and culture in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Algeria, Egypt and Palestine.
