1041 Roger Nygard, director, "The Truth About Marriage," editor, "Veep," "Who Is America?"

There is something special about Roger Nygard. He leads two very different lives in Hollywood: by day, he’s been a video editor on top comedy series such as “Curb Your Enthusiasm” with Larry David, “Veep” with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and most recently, he was part of Sacha Baron Cohen’s team on the politically explosive Showtime series, “Who Is America?” He also worked on “Crashing” with Pete Holmes, “The League,” “The Office” and “The Bernie Mac Show.” Roger Nygard podcast excerpt: "In 'The Truth About Marriage,' I set out to find out what the secret techniques are. Why is it so hard for people to be married? Why does it have to be so difficult? How can we make it better? But by night, Nygard is a highly successful documentary filmmaker. His natural curiosity, ear for dialogue and gentle demeanor has led to several wonderful documentaries. They include: • Trekkies (and Trekkies 2), about the singular sensation of Star Trek fans; • The Nature of Existence, about, well, everything; • And his latest, The Truth About Marriage—also self-explanatory—which he just wrapped a few weeks ago. Roger Nygard podcast excerpt: "It's bizarre how Sacha Baron Cohen (on 'Who Is America?') can get people to do what they do. But if you put somebody who presents as an authoritative figure in a room and fully commits to it, people generally fall in line. And they did with him -- in every scenario. He's always got a car ready to take him away from the set just in case ..." This is Roger’s fourth visit to Mr. Media. I encourage you to watch or listen to his earlier appearances after this one.
